An animal sanctuary is a place where animals live and are protected for their natural lives.

Parallax, from Greek parallaxis, "change", is defined as the displacement of the apparent position of a body, due to the change of position of the observer. In the middle of the 18th century an interest in in parallax occurs, becoming one of the prime sources for the establishment of modern architectural space.
We will discuss the concept of parallax in architecture - how the relation between humans and humans and humans and built structure changes through movement, and where different positions create multiple spatial, structural and social relations.

A genuine novelty, in the sciences at any rate, is a major disturbance in the universe, a development like consciousness or life itself.
- Michael North
The focus of the investigations will be on the notion of the "new" in architecture. A series of selected buildings built during the 20th century, situated in the Metroplitan City of Milan, and the city itself, act as a starting point for the investigations.

'... it has been only too easy to imagine that he had been waiting for thousands of years in the darkness for that moment of illumination in which he would finally be known.'

The palace of La Alhambra is said to be founded about 1250 on the ruins of a roman fortress. The building complex consists of several structures and gardens erected over a period of hundreds of years. The experience of the richness of the palace structures, materiality, surface ornament and spaces serve both as an immediate inspiration, and as a case study to be analysed according to the students' own programs.
